User Models for Customized Hypertext
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes a mechanism for providing hypertext documents that accommodate individual user’s different needs. The customisation of the text can take account of a variety of factors, including the user’s background, interests and preferred learning style. We describe the way we have implemented this and applied it to customising a hypertext course for the C programming language. Central to the customisation is the user model that represents the user’s preferences and knowledge. We describe the way that it is used to create individualised hypertext spaces for the user and the issues involved in eliciting and acquiring the user modelling knowledge.

Cognitive task graphs and executable user models for better hypertext
Authoring hypertext systems is complex and difficult. To help designers build quality hypertext systems, designers should understand users’ behaviour and the common tasks they perform when navigating hypertext systems, and, further, designers should build in accurate representations of user models. This is uncontentious wisdom, but so far, not easy. This paper shows that common tasks can be bro...
متن کاملiBIOMES Lite: Summarizing Biomolecular Simulation Data in Limited Settings
As the amount of data generated by biomolecular simulations dramatically increases, new tools need to be developed to help manage this data at the individual investigator or small research group level. In this paper, we introduce iBIOMES Lite, a lightweight tool for biomolecular simulation data indexing and summarization. The main goal of iBIOMES Lite is to provide a simple interface to summari...
متن کاملAdaptive Recognition of Implicit Structures in Human-Organized Layouts
Card-handling using hypertext editor can be a powerful methodology for generation of ideas or understanding of complex problems. To support such activity, recognizing implicit structure in the arrangement of cards would be useful. But, because the structures to be recognized are by nature ambiguous and highly dependent on user-speci c perception, it is di cult for conventional rule-based spatia...
متن کاملUser Model Agents for Distributed Filtering
This paper describes an architecture for intelligent agents derived from user models. The work extends our previous work on user modelling as a basis for various forms of customised systems. We make use of the um toolkit for representation, management and acquisition of the user models. We hav e used um-models as the basis for customisation of a coaching system, a personalised hypertext for tea...
متن کاملA HyperNet Model for Large Hypertext Systems
Two major problems with large hypertext systems are the user disorientation and lack of search ability. The problems, we believe, are mainly caused by the lack of semantics and modularity in hypertext data models. In this paper, a HyperNet model is proposed as a data model for large hypertext systems aimed at the above problems, which features strong modularity, attribute-based link semantics a...
